Weaning Kits

Kits must be removed from the mothers cage when they are old enough to no longer need her milk to survive.
When To Wean
Rabbits are old enough to wean between four and six weeks of age, but they can also go all the way up to eight or nine weeks. The time of weaning will vary depending on the size, breed and preference of the owner as long as the rabbits are old enough and capable of eating fully without nursing.
Advantages of Later Weaning
Advantages of weaning at 8-9 weeks means a larger stronger junior when weaned. The extra nutrition from mother can make a big difference especially for meat rabbits because they will be larger at weaning and will to reach butcher size quicker.
Disdvantages of Later Weaning
Lots of strain on mother rabbit. The mom will neeed more time to recover from the litter reducing the number of litters she can produce.
Early Weaning
Early Weaning for any rabbit is not recommended. Any kit should be able to fully eat by itself without nursing before being weaned.
